Innovation guides our quest for excellence
A national focus on minority business participation in growth industries, such as construction, has fueled initiatives to equip minority business owners with the skills and resources needed to compete with their non-minority counterparts.
At the CMBD, we have a broader goal in our mission to increase the capacity of Local Minority Business Enterprises (LMBEs). Our aim is to promote excellence within our workforce, and have a positive impact on the business community at large.
Our programs and initiatives are designed to:
- enhance the skills and abilities of Prince George’s County’s workforce;
- encourage greater collaboration and partnerships between minority and non-minority firms; and
- address minority business participation gaps in the County.
To achieve this, we created an innovative business development model that differs from similar programs. In our approach, we:
- focus on quality, not quantity. Hence, participants of our LMBE Accelerator Program are limited in number, thoroughly screened, and immersed in intense training;
- are not a one-size-fits-all shop and, consequently, craft customized solutions to meet individual needs;
- take a holistic approach to business development by focusing on leadership skills, C-Suite development, strategic growth, business management, and professional development;
- educate clients on the politics, procedures and due diligence of building successful business relationships with government agencies and corporations, particularly major contractors;
- promote quality service and integrity in business by teaching Total Quality Management (TQM) and Six Sigma;
- use only seasoned business owners to assist and coach our clients;
- employ both one-on-one and team coaching solutions to assist clients;
- provide on-site technical assistance; and
- deliver innovative training opportunities through a combination of classroom instruction, distance learning, and practical hands on experiences.
